Mandatory blood tests are required for persons handling Category I and II (Danger / Warning) organophosphates or carbamates for more than six (6) days within any thirty (30) day period. According to the Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry (http://www.atsdr.cdc.gov): Organophosphates are organic compounds that contain phosphorus, while carbamates are salts or esters of carbamic acid. In different ways, organophosphates and carbamates tend to cause the nervous system to stop working properly. Some are used in fertilizers or as pesticides, herbicides, fungicides, fire retardants, or nerve agents.
